The Smart Water Institute at Qingdao - QUT

The Smart Water Institute in Qingdao (SWIQ) was founded to lead this transformation. Established in 2026 at the School of Municipal and Environmental Engineering, Qingdao University of Technology, SWIQ is dedicated to turning cutting-edge research into real-world solutions. Under the leadership of Professor Harsha Ratnaweera—an internationally recognized innovator and fellow of the European Academy of Sciences—the institute brings together expertise from across the globe to advance the future of water.

 

What is Smart Water Technology?

It is the integration of advanced hardware, intelligent software, and predictive analytics to automate processes, gather data, and generate actionable insights—enabling water and wastewater facilities to operate more efficiently, sustainably, and proactively.
